Good riddance.
Backstory: My dad's health has been pretty rocky the past month or so (in & out of the hospital, constant dr visits, etc). Made plans to hang out one night with an older guy (32) I've been dating for a few weeks, but had to cancel the day of after my mom made last-minute plans to celebrate their 49th Wedding Anniversary as well as Dad's recent clean CAT scan results (Yay!). Apparently older guy saw my being close to family as "pretty negative" seeing as I "flaked" on our plans (I refuse to consider choosing to spend time celebrating with my family as "flaking"). These are the texts that followed a couple of days later--
Him: I guess it's over huh? It was fun while it lasted, thank you. good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for. *hugs*
Me: I suppose so. I just can't prioritize you over my family right now. Bad timing, I guess. I hope your class/trip goes well and good luck on your Europe tour later this year.
Him: goodbye.
Him: for the record, I wasn't asking you to prioritize me over family. I was just asking you to be transparent and not fuck around with my time, which I also value. This is why I don't date children.
Me: Ha. Quite the turn in attitude there. That's awful that you feel that way. I didn't intend to waste your time nor to have a change in plans. Maybe it's my childish naivete, but I'm pretty sure you're going to have to deal with these same issues sometimes when dating any age or maturity level. Bye.
The point: I may not have handled this situation in the best way possible, but I love my family (& friends) despite all the dysfunction and stress, and any guy who tries to get in the way of (or make me feel guilty about) my values and priorities can go fuck themselves. Screw you... On to the next (better) one.
