Bakery Assistant & Junior Editor
A collection of my observations and experiences.
I’m slightly amused at how some people make statements about their annoyance with the so-called ‘decline of the English language’ on social media, all the while failing to avoid making several grammatical errors within the same post themselves. People can’t actually believe that their butthole passive aggressive commentary like this will bring their target audience to some existential epiphany changing all future interactions. I guess I find it almost comparable to religious conservatives putting down sluts and heathens for not living ‘according to the Bible,’ meanwhile only truly upholding passages they deem fit for furthering their cause—-by the way, that there sacred book also says not to wear clothing of mixed fibers and I’m pretty sure most jeans have at least 10% spandex, or maybe just the ones fit for fat, inferno-bound exceptions like me. Sure, I used to be a pretty intolerable Grammar fiend myself, until I took an actual linguistics course and learned that there are a shit ton of language rules I was ignorant of (not to mention how certain dialects of the English language may allow for alternative pronunciations or word order, but that’s another story). So, I learned to mostly hold back being that smart-ass commenting on or calling out others’ (possibly improper) grammar usage unless I wanted to carry the Chicago Manual of Style with me everywhere in order to teach the masses (granted that would mean I’d have to finally finish reading the entire thing, too)—and let’s be real, ain’t nobody got time for that.
There will always be someone at least slightly more learned and knowledgeable on the matter who can or will find fault. Hell, there are probably quite a few mistakes in these paragraphs—using third person plural instead of his or her and such—and I’ve studied English/worked as an editor for the past six years. If, for whatever reason, I was truly bothered by the way a person spoke, wrote, or acted (whether on social media or in the flesh), I’d just stop associating with or paying attention to that person. (Go ahead, unfollow me). Someone may even argue that I’m a hypocrite by posting this, but, in my defense, I’m not annoyed, just simply sharing my observations and thoughts without any call for or expectation of change. In the end, I don’t actually care enough. I don’t even know why I wrote this. I blame the monthlies. #vaginas@4 months ago with 1 note
